Theater Tuschinski

This movie theater, built in 1921, designed by architect H. L. De Jong, is one of the finest examples of Art Deco in Amsterdam. The facade of this building is covered with glazed tiles and sculptures by C. Bartels and B. Jordens. The architecture feels oriental, with lots of deep colors and very ornate interior designs. This movie theater is still in business today. It is named after the founder, Abram Icek Tuschinski, one of the pioneers in the then young movie industry. He introduced the sound film in The Netherlands. He wanted the outside and interior of his theater to be as memorizing as the moving pictures being shown on the silver screen.
