Mt. Diablo State Park in the San Francisco East Bay area of California is known for its imposing mountain peak with an elevation of 3849 feet. On clear days visitors can see as far as the Farallon Islands to the west (65 miles), Mt. Lassen to the north (180 miles), and Yosemite Park to the east (130 miles). The park provides abundant recreational opportunities with an extensive trail system or hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians, several campgrounds for overnight stays, and is very popular with both road cyclists and runners or the challenging climb to the top. The annual Diablo Challenge is a bike ride/race held on the first weekend of October and on New Year's Day a variety of bicycling, running, and hiking clubs converge on the summit to usher in the coming year.
