This hotel is one of the high end hotels in Amsterdam. Opened in 1867 and designed by the architect C.Outshoorn, this building is a wonderful example of French Empire inspired international style. In the first years of it existence this hotel had a hard time getting by. The prosperous times came when the founder of physical therapy, Dr. Georg Mezger, started a practice there, which attracted European nobility and other elites to the hotel to get cured form aches and pains. This hotel's English Afternoon Tea is famous. The restaurant overlooks the river Amstel.
